Derrell “Slim” Weathers
Derrel “Slim” Weathers is a community organizer with Voices of Liberation and Feed the Hood, the founder of the Heal the Hood Program. As a community member and organizer, Derrel seeks to live his motto and “define ourselves for ourselves” by drawing on his lived experience as a survivor of the moral corruption that divides our society and helps people find paths towards self determination. Moral corruption defines the systems of oppression that permeate our society and environment and prevent our collective power, healing and peace. As a survivor of violence, street life and the criminal punishment system, Derrel advocates for power to come from the pain; for those who have suffered to be empowered. Through collective organizing and service efforts Derrel seeks to learn about, develop, spread and share models for a more inclusive and equitable future and popularize them so that they take root and flourish in the next generations.
