Juneteenth Weekend Planning
Two years had passed and many were still under the impression they were enslaved. On June 19th, 1865, that all would change. Union soldiers led by the famous Maj. Gen. Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, TX with the news that no black person would ever imagine they would hear. The Emancipation Proclamation had been signed! Slaves were FREE! Here, inlines the importance of this date, Juneteenth was birthed.
Not until the year 2021 was Juneteenth officially acknowledged as a Federal holiday. African-Americans and other black and brown families that persevered through these challenging experiences deserve to be recognized and honored.
M.O.'s will host Juneteenth Weekend in partnership with Nubian Square Foundation and Juneteenth Boston. Juneteenth is a time to lift every joyous voice and sing for all of those who came before us. Check out our team outing above!
